Toasted

Founded by Simon Marsland and based in MediaCityUK and in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Toasted describes itself as being 'born out of the love of storytelling and creative vision'. Producing corporate video content, I spent five weeks with the company in 2018 as part of my uni's Work Based Learning module.

They've produced content relating to social regeneration, local authorities and city councils, universities and colleges, tech, science, the arts, and music events across the world.

The Details

WHEN WERE YOU THERE?

I was with Toasted for five weeks in March and May 2018.

WHAT DID YOU DO?

This very hands-on placement saw me help to edit content, including a weekly podcast produced by a lighting design firm. I also completed administration tasks and research that the company hoped to optimise in the future, when seeking out new business. In addition to this, I helped to live-stream an event at the People's History Museum in the centre of Manchester (this you can see in full below).

WHAT WAS SPECIAL ABOUT THE PLACEMENT?

This was the first time I had ventured into the world of corporate filmmaking. Whilst at the end of the experience, I decided this avenue wasn't for me - I felt that this was such a great insight into one of the many independent, corporate filmmaking companies that exists in the UK, today.

Appraisal

'Tom has been an excellent asset to Toasted. We have enjoyed having Tom in the office, seeing him flourish has been a delight to watch. Tom has shown alot of enthusiasm, dedication and has been very hard working.

Tom has grasped being part of Toasted very well, he picked up our work flow very quickly and shown good initiative to all tasks given to him.

We wish Tom all the best for the future, we are more than happy for Tom to come back, if he so wishes.'
