Along with Global, Bauer is one of the biggest commercial radio groups in the UK, operating stations from the Highlands of Scotland, the busy metropolis' of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, right down to Cornwall. With its production hub in Castle Quay, Manchester, I've helped out in the Key 103 (now Hits Radio Manchester) newsroom and scaled the 453 foot-tall Radio City Tower in Liverpool for the company's academy.
WHEN WERE YOU THERE?
I helped out in the Key 103 newsroom for several Saturday's in 2017 and have completed three courses at the Bauer Academy. Two in 2015 and one in 2017.
WHAT DID YOU DO?
In a mix of shadowing and experience; I worked closely with the news teams to research, produce and record news bulletins and got a up-close-and-personal view of how this is done. In addition to this, I was able to write and record my own bulletins, using the stations facilities, which I could use for future demo material.
I completed three courses with the Bauer Academy including; Advanced Radio Presenting, Industry Immersion and Studio Skills. Each session would focus on a particular topic such as live reads, travel reporting, advertisements and story-telling. Hosted by one of the stations presenters, the courses allowed me to first learn the methods, have a go at planning and then into the studio to record it! Each participant came away with all their recordings as well as them must have studio photographs!
